Chapter 1 Excerpts
The slave traders came every Monday, and stayed until Wednesday night. It was the most dreadful time of the week, or so thought Celeste. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if the slave traders weren’t so suspicious. Celeste had a knack for being unrealistically curious about everything. Slave traders always came in big black wagons never letting anyone see what was inside. Plus they wore jet black clothes and veils over their faces so you could only see their crystal clear blue eyes giving them an eerie look. Celeste stared out of the window for the big wagon to come rumbling down the road. Not a soul was found outside when the slave traders came.
Chapter 2 Excerpts
“Come on, Duran. Please come with me!” Princess Ranella of Yulad Emira stood in the doorway of her brother’s room. “You never get out. The fresh air will do you good.” Ranella sighed. Her brother, Crown Prince Duran of Yulad Emira, had got it into his head that since he was the crown prince he should not leave the palcae. He was always in the palace reading.
Chapter 3 Excerpts
16 year old Princess Chalice of Yulad Emira glared at the girl standing opposite her. She couldn’t stand Duchess Rosalia Monika’s younger sister Carina, but today she was stuck with her. Her older sister Rosalia (one of the few people Chalice would do anything for) had to go out and had asked Chalice to keep Cariana company. Of course, this is probably better than walking in the dusty marketplace with Ranella, Chalice thought, even if Cariana is pretty. Cariana was 15 and much prettier than Chalice. Cariana had long wavy dark hair and deep dark eyes. Chalice couldn't stand anyone prettier than she was.Even Ranella. Chalice and short, straight mousy brown hair and dull green eyes. The only thing pretty about her was her heart. You wouldn't think it to look at her, but Chalice was a kind tender girl; she just didn't want other people to know her soft spot for the poor and tease her about it. Especially not Cariana.
